Later today (Thursday, 11/3/2011) we will be performing some of the infrastructure rebuild that we previously mentioned. Some new servers have arrived to start replacing our current setup and we will be installing and testing them today. If all performance tests show the improvements we are looking for, we will begin migrating some clients over to the new hardware. We will also be rebuilding our GOLD0001 server used for our Backup VPSs so those clients will be migrated also during the rebuild.

We will post a new announcement once Joe arrives at GoRACK and prior to any work being performed. At this time, no downtime is expected at all for any of our clients since OpenVZ has a live migration tool that has proven successful in the past.

We will provide more information as we can but as of right now, here is the game plan:

  1. Build a temporary server for Backup VPS clients while GOLD0001 is rebuilt. (At this point we are planning to replace the RAID5 build with RAID10 but this will depend on the hardware RAID card.)
  2. Rebuild GOLD0001 with new hardware RAID card and test performance with various drive settings.
  3. Migrate GOLD0001 clients back to GOLD0001 after server is built, tested, and deemed stable.
  4. Migrate clients from FIRE0003 and FIRE0004 to temporary server so we can use the hard drives to build our new server (FIRE0003_NEW) with RAID10.
  5. Build FIRE0003_NEW and test performance with various drive settings.
  6. Migrate clients to FIRE0003_NEW after deemed stable.
  7. Migrate SolusVM Master and Website to temporary server and rebuild internal servers.
  8. Build new hardware firewall and perform tests to see if network speeds improve.
As you can see we have a lot to do tomorrow but hopefully everything will go smoothly and the only thing that may cause a network disruption is adding the hardware firewall back into the mix but at this time we are not sure we will be doing this tomorrow due to the amount of testing we plan on doing.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about this maintenance and we will be happy to provide you with more information regarding it. Thank you.
