Today we're happy to bring you another exciting update on what's going on here at Secure Dragon.

Wyvern
We are in the process of deploying our new control panel, Wyvern, and we've decided to deploy this in phases. Over the next few weeks, clients will be switched over to Wyvern and it will be available inside WHMCS to manage your VPS. During this time, SolusVM will also be available for managing your VPS but the functionality will be limited and we plan to remove SolusVM access on February 28th for all OpenVZ VPSs once everybody is switched over. Once each location is fully switched over, we will send an e-mail for those clients in that location.

Wyvern has been in development for over 6 months and we've had beta testers using it since early January and we've made a lot of improvements (both bug fixes and features). We hope that with your feedback and ideas we can continue improving it to make it into a control panel that meets all of your needs.

Here are some things that are different from SolusVM:
1) The TUN/TAP, PPP, and FUSE modules are enabled by default on all new VPSs. If your current VPS does not have these modules enabled, please do so in SolusVM if you plan to use them (FUSE will require a ticket).
2) There is no Java console, you will need to use SSH to access your VPS in console mode (this will work even if your VPS has no network or SSH is disabled on your VPS).
3) You can now take a backup of your VPS and download it for up to 24 hours. You are limited to one backup at a time and cannot take another backup until your current one has expired.
4) You will get a ticket notification when you hit 90% and 100% of your monthly bandwidth.
5) Each client is given their own /64 IP for each location and you can assign your own IPv6 addresses inside Wyvern (up to 128 IPv6 per VPS).

HostGuard
For our KVM clients, we have been testing HostGuard as a SolusVM replacement since it includes a lot of features SolusVM does not offer such as giving each KVM server their own /64 of IPv6 and better monitoring and alerting. At this time this is still in testing with no ETA for deployment but we are very happy with the initial results.

New Locations
We have begun shipping new OpenVZ nodes to 4 new data centers with COLO@. The new locations are as follows:

  • Atlanta, GA (shipped today)
  • Dallas, TX
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • Weehawken, NJ (shipped today)

We expect all 4 locations to be online before the end of February, hopefully in the next week or two after we do some extensive testing. All 4 locations will also be utilizing our new Wyvern control panel.

In addition to these 4 locations, we're in negotiations with 3 other data centers, one in Virginia, one in Ohio, and the 3rd being GoRACK which was our original data center in Jacksonville, FL where we first started and where a lot of clients have requested we explore the option of putting OpenVZ nodes there.

Daily Backups
We've touched on this in the past but I don't recall ever posting any official information regarding our recently added daily backups that are included in all OpenVZ plans.

All OpenVZ plans are backed up daily to our Denver data center which keeps up to 7 backups for each VPS. This means that we can restore data for any OpenVZ VPS going back one week. Originally we had hourly and weekly backups setup in addition to the daily backups but the processing power, disk space, and bandwidth required did not make it a viable option as we continue expanding to different locations.

We decided to backup all of our locations to our Denver location primarily because the cost of bandwidth and because it's readily available to us if we ever need to physically access the server or hard drives.

An amazing start for 2014
A big thank you for all of our clients and your continued support. We feel that February will be an important milestone for us and we couldn't be more please with what we have in store for our clients. 2014 will be the year that we can take everything we've learned and put that knowledge to work.

For the past few months we've been focusing a lot on our infrastructure and our end-user experience so we invested very little into advertising, which is why we are so ecstatic by the amount of new clients who decide to join us every day strictly from word of mouth or the positive reviews we receive regularly. We appreciate all of you who have taken the time to write some kind words about us or those who have recommended us to friends and family over the years, it means the world to us and is the reason we strive to exceed your expectations every single day. We may have had some bumps in the road along the way, but the journey is far from over and we have no intention of taking the easy path if it means sacrificing quality.
