We are currently running emergency backups of all OpenVZ, KVM, and Xen PV VPSs (excluding our Backup VPSs). These full backups are in response to the current situation with Tropical Storm Isaac.
Current projections show that Isaac could potentially hit Tampa on Monday (8/27) in the evening as a Category 1 hurricane. The actual chances of this storm hitting our data center are remote and the potential for an actual outage from a direct hit from a Category 1 (~80MPH winds) are even less likely. Our data center is on the 8th floor with generators and UPS power on both the 7th and 8th floors so flooding is not a concern. The current generators and fuel tanks can support the data center for 72 hours which will be plenty of time for us to initiate a contigency plan with our backups if needed. In addition to the power and network redunancy, the floor our data center is on has been reinforced to withstand hurricane force winds.
Again, we do not expect any issues from Isaac but we would prefer to err on the side of caution and that is why these backups are being performed. We apologize for any slowness experienced by these backups but we hope to finish them all within 12 hours. In the event of an outage, our website will remain online as well as our information site (Drgn.biz), our Client Area may not be available but communication will remain open via e-mail, our sites, and Twitter. Thank you for your understanding and as always, please contact us with any questions or concerns you have.
