Another eventful week has gone by and we wish we had a lot to report but we are happy with what details we are able to release at this time.
- FIRE0003 has been up for almost 1 week without any issues (knock on wood) and while the resutls we had with CentOS 6 were very impressive, we favor the stability of CentOS 5 and are glad we have stuck with it. We have been using our new server as our pioneer into what we have been internally referring to as the NEW Secure Dragon.
- The NEW Secure Dragon is the same heart and soul in a different body. We have evaluated every nook and cranny of our company from the business plan to the hardware and we've made some changes to help shape the future of Secure Dragon. Most of these changes are how we deal with things internally and how we will be handling expansion and development, but some of them will be visible and when they are we'll be sure to let you know.
- GOLD0001 has been unavailable for 4 days now while we ordered a replacement contoller card which arrived today so we've been working on getting it back online and stable. We apologize for those Backup VPS clients who are on our TEMP01 server and will have you moved over as soon as we are sure that GOLD0001 is stable.
- FIRE0001 and FIRE0002 are scheduled to be replaced next weekend with newer servers utilizing RAID10 SAS drives exactly like FIRE0003. Enjoy the performance boost!
- OpenVZ VPS plans are expected to change once FIRE0001 and FIRE0002 are replaced. We are hoping to be able to provide more disk space and CPU with the new servers but we are 99.999% certain that prices will not increase so don't worry (if prices do ever change, all current clients will not be impacted anyway). We have removed our 256MB and 512MB plans from our website and no longer plan on offering them publicly. We plan to primarily focus on Low End Boxes (LEBs), cPanel Shared Hosting, and Backup VPSs.
- Xen PV VPS plans are expected to be available once again for purchase in the future. We are working on building a new SHADOW0001 server and have decided to stick with focusing on Xen PV over Xen HVM or KVM at this time. While I (Joe) personally would love to offer only KVM VPSs, even my mind has been swayed with the extended exposure to OpenVZ and I due feel that while KVM is the superior platform, OpenVZ is better suited for LEBs.
- SolusVM has been a hot topic of discussion lately both at our meetings and online. We have noticed a lot of VPS providers are moving to a custom solution and this is something we are also actively exploring (i.e. we have development servers online right now). In theory SolusVM should not be utilized very much as long as your VPS is running nicely and we hope that is the case for all of our clients, we hope that any change in control panel does not impact our client's opinions of us but in the event that us having SolusVM was a selling point for you, please contact us and let us know so we can take that into consideration as we continue on with our development.
- GoRACK has been our home since the beginning and we can't say anything bad about them in the years we have been dealing with them (even way before Secure Dragon came along). We have no intention of ever leaving them but we are looking at expanding to other locations. This has been discussed in the past but as we get closer and closer to getting our own IP space from ARIN this might just be around the corner (well around the corner on the west coast).
- IPv6 has been here for a while but still goes untested. We have had a lot of volunteers to help us test them but unfortunately IPv6 has been a very low priority as we work on more critical things (such as firewalls and how the ones we've tried don't work with IPv6 yet).
We hope this update holds you over until after Thanksgiving. At this time we are planning another trip to GoRACK on the 25th with some new hardware. We will provide more information as we get closer to that date and we will e-mail our clients with a timeline of work to be done.
Thanks again for all of the kind words being shared about us. We truly try our best at providing a service our clients can enjoy.
