With the new addition of multiple servers to our cabinet and with thorough testing of the latest CentOS 6 platform for our fire04 node we have decided to begin upgrading all current CentOS 5 nodes to CentOS 6. We will begin tonight at 9PM EST and work throughout the weekend until fire01, fire02, and fire03 are upgraded to CentOS 6.
Here are the steps we will be taking for this upgrade:
- Online migration of all VPSs off of fire01 (CentOS 5) onto our newly built fire05 (CentOS 6).
- Bring down fire01 and rebuild it with CentOS 6.
- Online migration of all VPSs off of fire02 (CentOS 5) onto newly updated fire01 (CentOS 6).
- Bring down fire02 and rebuild it with CentOS 6.
- Online migration of all VPSs off of fire03 (CentOS 5) onto newly updated fire02 (CentOS 6).
- Bring down fire03 and rebuild it with CentOS 6.
Due to the nature of this work, there is no ETA when a specific VPS will be migrated or even when we will begin a specific node since this is all based on the amount of data being transferred, how much load is on the server, and how busy the network is at the time. We will keep this announcement updated as we make progress during the weekend.
All OpenVZ clients will be receiving an informative e-mail shortly.
